How We Make Money
The plain-English version: some links are affiliate links, we may earn a commission at no cost to you, and it never buys a spot in our rankings.
The short version
Bergamot & Birch is free to read. We fund it through affiliate links: when you click a “View on Amazon” or “Check price” button and buy something, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is the same whether you use our link or not.
Amazon Associates
Bergamot & Birch is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Our links are tagged with our Associates ID (t5fragrance-20) and routed through a /go redirect so we can keep the links maintainable and, in future, swap a retailer without rewriting our content. We may add other affiliate programs over time; if we do, the same rules below apply.
What commissions do and don’t change
- They don’t buy a ranking. No brand or retailer can pay to appear or to rank higher. Placement is editorial — see how we rank.
- They don’t change our verdict. When a cheaper option is the better buy, that’s our pick, even if a pricier one would pay us more. We often link the cheaper clone over the designer for exactly this reason.
- They fund the work. Compiling specs, checking prices daily and keeping pages current takes time; affiliate income is what pays for it instead of ads that track you or sponsorships that compromise the reviews.
About the prices you see
Prices are pulled live from Amazon and stamped with the date they were fetched (“Price as of…”). Prices and availability change constantly, and a number can be out of date the moment a retailer updates it — always confirm the current price on Amazon before buying. If we don’t have a live price for a product, we show “Check price on Amazon” rather than an old number.
FTC disclosure
In line with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s endorsement guidelines, we disclose our affiliate relationship clearly: pages that carry buy links show an “#ad” marker and a disclosure line near those links, and this page is linked from every one of them and from the footer. We want you to know exactly how the site is funded before you click.
